Craig-

I wasn't able to find that information easily. It seems like the market has really exploded over the last couple of years though.

@AMR-

It's always a shame when something that's intended to last for years becomes another disposable accessory. To that I'd say don't blame the bottles, blame the culture that perpetuates the myth that anything can be thrown away.

Where had you heard or read that stainless steel can't be recycled? This link is more along the lines of what I had read on the subject. And I'm also curious where you got your figure about 1500 plastic bottles = one stainless steel bottle. Link me? Recommend a book?

That being said, even if a stainless steel bottle that CAN be recycled ends up in a landfill, at least it's not leaching chemicals into the groundwater and oceans as 1500 plastic bottles would.

Cheers,
Molly

Hi Karen-

If it's just dry dog food, then it's your call about whether or not to switch to stainless steel for the food bowls. Storing things long-term in aluminum containers and cooking in aluminum are more likely to cause aluminum to leach than dry, room-temperature dog food that will be eaten fairly quickly. Still, if I were a dog, I'd rather lick a stainless steel bowl clean after eating than an aluminum one, for taste reasons.

Thanks for reading!

I have a household of Afghan Hounds and have been feeding dry dog food from hanging aluminum coop cups. Are there possible side effects from using an aluminum container to feed the dogs?

I am about to order replacements, and came across your post about aluminum containers for humans.

Thanks to a ban on the sale of water bottles in my municipality, there's an explosion of stainless steel water bottles. They're so fashionable that people keep buying new ones to replace their slightly older ones that they've gotten sick of.

Guess where the old ones end up? That's right! IN A LANDFILL! Because YOU CAN'T RECYCLE STAINLESS STEEL.

What's more, stainless steel bottles take the same energy to produce as 1500 water bottles! That's about how many times a stainless steel bottle is refilled before the average punk decides to buy a new one.

Very informative!!

In recent times, the world is becoming cognizant about the hazardous effects of plastic bags on the environment.
Also PLA has been used to line the inside of Paper Cups in place of the oil based lining more commonly used, create Plastic ( bioplastics ) Cups, Cutlery, Carrier Bags, Food Packaging and even Nappies.
Thanks,
